In this article we share the most important conclusions on circularity in the Galician business ecosystem from the latest ARDÁN Report.
The latest ARDÁN Report, published in September 2023, reveals that the implementation of circular economy strategies in Galicia still has room for improvement. Despite this, there are leading companies that are driving this change and demonstrating that circularity can be adopted by organizations of any size.
This study, carried out by the Consorcio de la Zona Franca de Vigo and the Universidade de Vigo, has analyzed the degree of development of the circular economy in Galician companies. For this purpose, a methodology has been applied that includes the Material Circularity Indicator (MCI) of the Ellen MacArthur Foundation, which considers all aspects of a circular design and measures the material flows throughout the life cycle of a product or service.
According to the results of the research, only a little more than 2% of companies in Galicia are identified as leaders in the transition to a circular economy. However, 7% of companies already have circularity principles integrated into their organizational structure. These data indicate that, although there is still a long way to go, there is a growing interest on the part of the business sector in adopting more sustainable practices.
A highlight of the report is that more than 50% of the companies considered circular are micro or small enterprises, challenging the notion that the size of a company is a determining factor in implementing circular economy strategies. In this sense, the report emphasizes that any organization, regardless of its size, can contribute to the transition to a more sustainable economy.
Among the companies in the Galician landscape, 42 organizations stand out for their ability to integrate the circular economy into their organizational culture and show a higher degree of collaboration in the value chain. Their focus on circularity is reflected in materials management, production processes and purchasing decisions and collaborations.
Among them is TEIMAS, recognized with the "Circular Company" indicator in the ARDÁN 2023 Report for its active commitment to raising awareness of the importance of the circular economy and integrating its principles into its organizational structure.
In the 2023 edition of the ARDÁN Report, TEIMAS has also excelled in three other indicators: Global Company, Innovative Company and Talent Management.
