Press release:

TEIMAS receives EU funding to drive intelligent waste management in large corporations

Santiago de Compostela, Spain. September 29, 2020

The Spanish tech start-up TEIMAS has stood out since 2008 as a developer of cloud software for waste managers and producers. TEIMAS has received €112,500 in EU funding for innovative companies to foster development of ZERØ. Since 2019, the ZERØ digital platform has supported environmental sustainability in large corporations.

TEIMAS Desenvolvemento, a tech company specialised in software solutions for waste managers and producers, has received a grant for innovative companies from the association EIT RawMaterials. Made up of companies, universities and research centres, this association has the mission of driving the sustainable growth of the European raw materials sector through innovation and education.

A total of 9.8 million euros of aid were awarded to 60 European companies that stand out for their high growth potential and capacity for innovation.

ZERØ, TEIMAS’ new project for large waste producers

In recent years, circular economy has become a priority in EU policies, as reflected by the extensive regulatory framework affecting industrial waste traceability and the pursuit of more sustainable production models.

In this context, new technologies like ZERØ, TEIMAS’ online platform to streamline intelligent waste management in large corporations, are increasingly important. Creating this tool, launched in 2018, was a logical step for TEIMAS after acquiring 10 years of experience in the development of waste-document management software.

By allowing the traceability of documents related to waste management, ZERØ makes it easier for users to comply with environmental regulations. This tool also promotes sustainability strategies, as its dashboards display business indexes that can help companies to pursue a circularity-based production model, incorporate the principles of the ZERØ WASTE movement in their operations, and contribute to the fulfilment of the Sustainable Development Goals in the management of waste produced.

Since 2019, ZERØ has been implemented by several multinationals in Spain under the Software as a Service (SaaS) model, a technology that does not require maintenance, hosting, or security management. The aid granted by EIT RawMaterials will allow it to continue expanding ZERØ’s features.

Among the innovations to be added to ZERØ is a blockchain project for waste shipments, which will be deployed in less than three months. This feature will guarantee the immutability of data on waste from its place of origin to its final treatment at a waste management centre. To complete this project, TEIMAS will rely on blockchain technology developed by Telefónica and the infrastructure, advising, and resources of its innovation hub, Wayra, through the Telefónica Activation Programme.
